Edward R. Self, 85, of Topeka, passed away Saturday, February 6, 2016 at McCrite Plaza. He was born August 2, 1930 in Norman, Arkansas, the son of Rube L. and Lina C. (Duke) Self.

Edward was an Army Air Corps Veteran, serving October 3, 1946 through August 3, 1949 obtaining the rank of Sergeant. He was stationed in Guam and Hawaii during his service.

Edward was employed by Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company for 35 years and 9 months before retiring in 1991. He was a member of Terra Heights Baptist Church, United Rubber Workers Local No. 307 and was a life member of Topeka North Post No. 400 of the American Legion.

Edward married Eloise L. Massek on August 14, 1949 in Goff, Kansas. She survives. Other survivors include their children, Regina A. Caylor Rickie A. Self, Teresa L. Self, Edward L. Self, 5 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Edward was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Lorie Caylor on December 25, 1982.

Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, February 11, 2016 at Penwell-Gabel Parker Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave. where the family will receive friends one hour prior to service time. Burial will follow in Topeka Cemetery.
