John Steven Everett, 68, passed away February 2, 2016, at St. Francis Hospital.

Steve was born October 21, 1947, in Marion, KS, to John and Mattie (Fox) Everett. After graduating from Matfield Green Rural High School in 1966, he joined the US Army. He was a construction engineer in the Vietnam War. Steve retired from the State of Kansas where he worked as a security guard at the VA Hospital and KNI.

On October 21, 1978, he married Regenia Ann Kincaid in Lawrence, KS.

Steve was a member of the Kansas Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 604. He was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans, Post 400.

He is survived by his three children, Carolyn (Pete) Schmidt of Topeka, Patrick (Misty) Grimes of Galena, KS and Julia Stout of Topeka; six grandchildren, Elizabeth Todd, Marie Grimes, Brandon Grimes, Wyatt Schmidt, Khrystal Squire, and Anastasia Schmidt.

Steve was preceded in death by his loving wife of 35 years, Regenia and parents.

A funeral ceremony will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 9, 2016, at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Ave, Topeka. Burial will follow at Topeka Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
