Kathleen Wilson Selvidge, 69, of Carbondale, passed away at home on Saturday, January 30, 2016 surrounded by her family after a long battle with cancer.
She was born on December 9, 1946, in Manhattan, Kansas, the daughter of C. Peairs and Doris (Smith) Wilson. She graduated from Manhattan High School in 1964 and Pomona College in 1968.
Kathleen began working as a secretary in a law office in San Diego in 1978. After working there for 3 years, she attended the University of San Diego School of Law and graduated in 1984 with a Juris Doctor degree. After graduation she began working for Michael Wilson as an associate in her old law firm and in 1989 became a full partner. She worked in the law firm until 1999 when she moved to the Topeka, KS area. Even after moving to Topeka, she continued to work from home for the law office of Wilson and Corbin in San Diego until July of 2015.
Kathleen married Harold R. Selvidge on December 11, 1999 in Topeka.
Survivors include her husband, Harold R. Selvidge of Topeka, sister, Susan W. (Nate) Bowditch of Westport Island, ME, brother, Carver P. (Maureen) Wilson of Kula, Maui; step-children, Diana Corbin and Julie Oppenheimer of San Diego County, CA and Sean C. (Nicole) Selvidge of Topeka; grandchildren, Nathan R. Selvidge and Jessica Irene Selvidge of Topeka; Jake Oppenheimer and Rylie K Oppenheimer of San Diego; her niece, Windi T. Bowditch of Amesbury, MA and nephew, N. Sean (Nancy Hiemstra) Bowditch and their children Kian and Saskia Bowditch, all of Huntington Station, NY; and her mother-in-law, Helen Selvidge, and brother-in-law, John Selvidge, Jr., both of Manhattan, KS.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her former husband, Romaine Corbin.
Her interests were reading, classical music, her family, her home in the country, the Flint Hills, and all of her dear friends, who have been incredibly supportive during her illness.
Kathleen's wishes were to be cremated and a memorial service will be held from 1:00 - 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 28, 2016 at the Garden House at Lake Shawnee, 3720 SE Yacht Ct. Topeka, KS 66609 . Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel is assisting the family with the arrangements.
