Marion Eldon Raper, 94, died Monday, November 23, 2015 at McCrite Plaza Topeka, Kansas.

He was born April 23, 1921 in Irwin, Barton County, Missouri; the son of William Francis and Lottie (Purcell) Raper. He attended schools in Barton County and graduated from Lamar High School in 1938.

Mr. Raper graduated from the University of Kansas in 1949 and worked as a structural engineer in Topeka for 42 years, retiring in 1991 from the State of Kansas–Division of Architectural Services.

He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, serving as a B–17 bombardier with the 385th Bomb Group of the 8th Air Force in Suffolk, England. He participated in 30 operations over the Continent in 1944 and 1945, being awarded the Air Medal with Oak Leaf Clusters, the Distinguished Flying Cross and the French Liberation Diplôme.

He married Erma Vera Nelson in Ogden, Utah on April 21, 1945. She died September 24, 1976. He was also preceded in death by his parents, and sisters, Mildred Daniel and Goldie Wendel and a step–grandson, John Wollin.

He married Catherine Broadfoot David in Topeka on February 14, 1982. Survivors in addition to his wife, Catherine, are his four daughters Karen (Gary) Jensen and Nancy (Kevin) Crump, both of Salt Lake City, Utah; Marsha (Rick) Nelson, St. George, Utah; Mary (Bill) Bentley, Leavenworth, Kansas, and two step–daughters; Connie Wollin and Carol David, of Texas. He is also survived by fifteen grandchildren, Claudia, Wendy, Gary, Lindsay, Joel, Michael, Matthew, Anna, Bob, Erik, Makayla, David, Alayne, Nicole and Ginger and twenty great–grandchildren.

Mr. Raper was a member of the Topeka Sherwood Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

The family appreciates the kindness and compassion of his church family, friends and the caregivers and staff of McCrite Plaza.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 28, 2015 at 2:00 pm at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 3611 SW Jewell Ave. The family will receive friends at the church one hour (1:00 pm) prior to the funeral service. Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel is assisting the family. Further services and burial will be at the Ogden City Cemetery; Ogden, Utah under the direction of the Lindquist Mortuary.
