Dolores I. Sorrells

Dolores I. (Jernigan) Sorrells, 85, of Silver Lake, KS, passed away Wednesday, November 18, 2015, at her home. She was born February 15, 1930, in Osage County, the daughter of Reese Adli and Flora (Haller) Jernigan. She was a graduate of Topeka High School.

Dolores owned and operated Dolores’s Beauty Shop in Silver Lake, and later retired from Josten’s Yearbook.

She was a member of First Baptist Church, Silver Lake; VFW Post No 1650 Ladies Auxiliary in Topeka and Coachmen Camping Club.

Dolores married Herman O. “Sarge” Sorrells on November 16, 1957 in Topeka. He preceded her in death on February 18, 2001. She was preceded in death by her parents, two grandchildren, Matthew Beach and Wesley Sorrells and a brother, Floyd “Chig” Jernigan.

Survivors include two sons, Tommy L. (Becky) Sorrells of Austin, TX and Rodger A. Sorrells of Havensville; two daughters, Brenda M.Trimble (Darrell) and Sydney I. Sorrells, both of Topeka; 9 grandchildren, including Sarah Beach (RJ Frye) of Silver Lake, Stacy Ekis (Ron) of Topeka, Stephanie Hanna of Topeka, Sandy Hanna of Topeka, Leah Russell of Topeka, Rachel Peters (Travis) of Havensville, Rodger Sorrells II of Havensville, Jason Carr (Jennifer) of Sabetha, and Chris Carr of Cheyenne, WY; several great-grandchildren, including Olivia Beach, Jacob, Cristopher, Colby and Emily Frye, Virginia Nichols, Victoria Bond (Jacob), Conner Nichols, Noah Ekis, Elijah Ekis, Makayla Ekis, Austin Carr, Landon Carr, Dallas Carr, Zachery and Rebecca Peters; great-great-grandchildren: Avery Nichols and Jace Bond; a sister, Nadine Kvasnicka of Oakley; and two brothers, Robert Jernigan of Maple Hill and Max Jernigan of Topeka.

Dolores enjoyed family, traveling, camping, square dancing, and volunteering at the V.A. Hospital.

A funeral ceremony will be 10:00 AM, Tuesday, November 24, 2015, at the Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave, Topeka, KS 66608. Interment will follow at the Prairie Home Cemetery, NW 35th & Menoken Road, Topeka.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time. Dolores will lie in state from 3:00 to 8:30 PM, Monday, at the funeral chapel.
