Keith graduated from White City High School in 1944 and earned a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Kansas where he also played basketball under Phog Allen. He was an Army Air Corps Veteran in 1943, serving in WWII and the Korean War. He was discharged as First Lt. in 1958. He was President of Myron Green Cafeterias Inc. for 40 years before retiring. He was a long time member of Westminster Presbyterian Church.
Keith married Carol Maull on February 26, 1953 in Kansas City, MO. She preceded him in death on March 19, 2014. He was also preceded in death by his granddaughter, Hannah Steves on January 30, 1995. Survivors include four children, Carolyn Jean Kappelmann of Conroe, TX, Mary (Calvin) Call of Jefferson City, MO, Kimberly Steves (John Godfrey) of Topeka and Kenneth (Denise) Kappelmann of Lenexa, KS, He also is survived by nine grandchildren, Douglas Call, Rebecca Kolkmeier, William Call, Audrey Steves, Loren Steves, Connie Hubbel, Kyle Kappelmann, Kaylie Kappelmann and Max Kappelmann, and three great-grandchildren with a fourth expected next year. Also surviving is a sister, Meredith (George) Taylor of Lawrence, KS.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 5, 2015 at Westminster Presbyterian Church where the family will receive friends one hour prior to service time. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1275 SW Boswell Ave., Topeka, KS 66604 or to the Topeka Rescue Mission, 600 N. Kansas Ave., Topeka, KS 66608.
