Patricia Carol “Pat” Burton, 81, of Topeka, passed away Sunday, May 24, 2015 at her home.

She was born January 28, 1934 in Caney, Kansas, the daughter of Ernest Otto and Dortha Elizabeth (Froebe) Casey. She was a graduate of Arkansas City High School and received with a Master’s Degree in Foods and Nutrition at Kansas State University.

Pat was employed by Capper’s Farm Magazine, Topeka Inn Management, and retired from Kansas Telecommunications Association to assist Charles with home dialysis. Pat’s volunteer positions included teaching Sunday School, Camp Fire Girls leader, Topeka Youth Project and Let’s Help.

She was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church, Topeka, Alpha Delta Phi Alumni at KSU, PEO Chapter GK and Topeka League of Women’s Voters.

Pat married Charles Jay Burton on March 20, 1955 in Arkansas City, KS. He preceded her in death on June 8, 2008. Survivors include two daughters, Kathleen E. Thorne, Louisville, CO and Annette E. (Ronald) Martin, Lincoln, NE, four grandchildren; Nichole Thorne, Charles Martin, Sara (Tim) Chrisman, R.J. Martin; two great-grandchildren, Alyssa and Madison Chrisman; sister, Nancy (Wayne) Ullery, Placitas, NM; and nephews, Gregory A. Schnell and Bradley O. Schnell.

Pat enjoyed learning, the outdoors, cooking, flower gardening, playing bridge, attending theater, quilting and book keeping. Pat was a creative, positive, friend of the earth who lived her life with kindness, integrity, intelligence and always present for her family in good times and bad.

Patricia was cremated. A memorial ceremony will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 29, 2015 at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 4746 SW 21st St., Topeka, KS 66604. Private family inurnment will be in Riverview Cemetery, Arkansas City, KS.

Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Presbyterian Church or The Nature Conservancy, Attn: Treasury, 4245 N. Fairfax Drive, Suite 100, Arlington, VA 22203.
