Tamila Kay "Tami" Downing-Blancas

Tamila Kay "Tami" Downing, 50, Topeka, died Monday, May 4, 2015, at Stormont-Vail Hospital, Topeka. She was born February 1. 1965, in Topeka, to Richard Wayne and Cynthia Sue (English) Downing.

She graduated from Highland Park High School. Tami was a caregiver. She formerly was a member of Oakland Christian Church.

Tami was married to Roger Blancas, Jr. on July 23, 1991, in Arizona. They were separated. He survives.

Surviving are her father: Richard Downing; great-grandmothers: Lois English and Avis Downing; three children: Brian Anthony Downing (Crystal), Bobi Sue Downing, and Rebecca Renee Cano (Lazaro); a sister Susan Michelle Torrez (Martin); and eight grandchildren: Sierra Elizabeth Marie Downing, Haley Kay Downing, Brooklyn Ann Downing, Kyli Katherine Warren, Anthony Wayne Downing, Angel Enrique Cano, Gabriel Jesus Cano, and Delilah Cynthia Rose Cano, all of Topeka. Also surviving is her significant other, Darrell Finan, of Topeka.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Cynthia Sue Downing, on April 5, 2013; and her grandfathers, Fred English and Morris Downing.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM , Friday, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Avenue, Topeka. Committal services will be at 12:30 PM, Friday, at Vassar Cemetery in Osage County.

Tami will lie in state after 3:00 PM, Thursday, at the funeral chapel where the family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 PM.
