She was born November 14, 1930, in Effingham, Kansas, the daughter of Edward and Clara (Wahaus) Wehking.
Elsie married Vincent Wessel on August 13, 1949. He preceded her in death on August 30, 2005 .
Elsie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She also touched the lives of many children having provided in home day care for over 25 years. Elsie was an avid reader and enjoyed playing cards and board games with friends and family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Kenneth Wehking; a daughter and son in law, Diane and Ken Brown.
Survivors include sons, Larry (Julie) Wessel, Cheyenne, WY, Jim (Cindy) Wessel, Omaha, NE, Alan (Stephanie) Wessel, Omaha, NE, Bob (Tasha) Wessel, Hutchinson, KS; daughter, Cathie (Kevin) Wade, Berryton, KS; 17 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; brothers, Alvin Wehking, Marvin (Trudy) Wehking, Glen (Barbara) Wehking; in laws, Joe (Mary) Wessel, Tom (Connie) Wessel and many nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Ceremony will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 5, 2018 at Christ Lutheran Church, 3509 SW Burlingame Rd., Topeka. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. at St. Ann's Cemetery, Effingham, KS. Family will greet friends from 5:00 to 7: 00 p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Ave. Topeka, KS.
