Francis Eugene "Gene" Latter, 88, Topeka, passed away Thursday, February 15, 2018 at a local care center.

Gene was born November 29, 1929 in Carbondale, the son of Charles E. and Lula E. (Higgins) Latter. He graduated from Carbondale High School in 1948 and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

He worked as a Mailer for the Topeka Capital-Journal for 46 years, retiring in 1994.

He was a former member of Grace United Methodist Church.

Gene married Peggy A. Bridgewater on June 15, 1973. She died June 30, 2014. Survivors include step-son, David (Ellen) Bridgewater, Wichita; grandsons, Joseph (Francie) and Kyle Bridgewater; and nieces, Karen (Dave) Carlson and Gale (Dan) Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Helen M. Remington.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 19, 2018 at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road. Private family inurnment will be in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
