Ruth Alice Gaches (Gautier/Maler) 83, of Topeka KS died on Saturday January 13, 2018 after an illness. She was born on April 6, 1934 in Medford, N.Y. to John Gautier and Viola (Bennett) Gautier. Ruth graduated from Patchogue High School and went on to earn a Para-Professional Certification as a Teacher’s Assistant at Dowling College. Ruth was employed at Dr. Joseph Harder’s office in Bellport NY. Additionally, she was employed as a Para-Professional at Bellport Middle School and a recruiter for the United Blood Services in Reno NV. Ruth had been a breast cancer survivor since 2011. She will especially be remembered for her quick wit, sense of humor and her compassion for other people.
Ruth married Clarence Maler Jr. in 1953, they later divorced. She married Claude Gaches and he preceded her death in 1997. Ruth was also preceded in death by her parents, a son: Michael D. Maler and her siblings: David Gautier, John Gautier, Viola Strier and Virginia Whitlock.
Ruth is survived by her children: Pamela Trifaro (Leonard) of Patchogue, NY, John Maler (Dina) of Topeka KS, Steven Maler (Katie) E-6 Master in Arms First Class of Devol, OK. Sisters: Patsy Jones of Vineland NJ and Joan Rudtke of Long Island NY; nineteen grandchildren: Christopher Zavesky (Jennifer) of Vero Beach Florida, Jason Zavesky of Bellport, NY, Nicholas Zavesky of Patchogue, NY, Rose Laube (Brian) of Holtsville, NY, Michelle Solis (Alfred) of Mastic, NY, Katherine Trifaro of Patchogue, NY, Justine Maler of Topeks, KS, Jared Maler of Topeka KS, Jason Maler of Lawrence KS, Joshua Maler of Topeka KS, Steven Lloyd Maler of Okinawa, Japan, Danielle Maler of Texas, Amanda Winters (Tanner) of Texas and John Maler (Laura) of Arkansas. Additionally, Ruth had fifteen great- grandchildren.
Ruth will lie in state after 3pm on Monday, January 22, 2018 at Penwell-Gable Parker-Price Chapel 245 NW Independence Avenue Topeka, KS. A Rosary will be prayed at 6pm and the family will receive friends from 6:30pm to 7:30pm.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10am, Tuesday January 23, 2018 at Mother Teresa of Calcutta Catholic Church, 2014 NW 46st Street, Topeka KS. Interment will be in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery 3616 SW Sixth Avenue Topeka KS.
