Lewis “Elmer” Davis, ninety-two, of Topeka Kansas, died January 10, 2018 at Stormont Vail Hospital. He was born February 18, 1925 at Hoyt, Kansas, the third son of Frank H. and Josie A. (Sallee) Davis. He had lived in Topeka most of his life. Mr. Davis was a Captain in the Topeka Fire Department where he served from November 2, 1953, until his retirement on December 21, 1979. He was a member of the Firefighters Union Local #83 of Topeka. A last alarm ceremony will be conducted by Topeka Firefighters.
Elmer graduated from Hoyt High School in 1943. He was married to Doris Faye Fordice September 30, 1945. She survives at Brewster Place. Other survivors: two sons, James L. Davis (Linda), Topeka, KS; and Marvin A. Davis, (Julie), Topeka, KS; one daughter, Judy K. Donnelly (Patrick), Topeka, KS; seven grandchildren: Christopher Davis (Keli) of McPherson, Justen Davis (Crissy) of Lone Tree, CO, Loren Davis (Nikki) of Topeka, Ann Ellebracht (Brad) of Columbia, MO, John Davis (Melanie) of Overland Park, KS, Sharah Davis of Lawrence, KS, and Clint Davis (Jennifer) of Overland Park, KS; and nineteen great grandchildren. Two brothers, Charles Davis and Ralph Davis, and one sister, Lorraine Cummings, preceded him in death.
Elmer and Doris had a farm north of Topeka for many years. Elmer enjoyed farming, attending farm auctions, buying old farm equipment and spending time with his sons, grandsons, and neighbors fixing farm equipment in his shop.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM, Saturday, January 13, 2018, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Avenue, Topeka. Interment will be in Hoyt Cemetery.
Elmer will lie in state after 3:00 PM, Friday, at the funeral chapel where the family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Fireman’s Off-duty Relief Fund, 720 SW 21st Street, Topeka, KS 66612.
