John Phillip Smoot, 51, Topeka, died Wednesday, December 6, 2017. John was born February 1, 1966, in Topeka, the son of Harold Lee and Lila Mae (Michaels) Smoot.
He graduated from Seaman High School and served in the U.S. Army. He had been employed by KanBuild, Southwest Publishing, and Hamm’s.
John was married to Dawn Smoot and they later divorced. He was married to Denise (Davis) Fluke on June 14, 1997, in Topeka.
Surviving are his wife: Denise Smoot of the home; children: Dustin Fluke (Laura) of Topeka, Kara Heckard (James) of Topeka, Dora Nichols of Red Cloud, NE, Kacie Reyes of Englewood, CO, and Carol Jene Gonzales of Englewood, CO; siblings: Mike Smoot (Bonnie) of Topeka, Charlene Smoot of Florida, Cathy Bogia (Doug) of Hillsboro, OR, and David Smoot (Julie) of Topeka; and 13 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM, Thursday, December 14, 2017, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Avenue, Topeka. Cremation will follow with private interment of cremains at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum, 3616 SW Sixth Avenue, Topeka.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 PM, Thursday, at the funeral chapel.
