He was born December 28, 1932, in Tescott, Kansas, the son of Graham and Mary (John) Larson. He graduated from Tescott High School in 1950. Duane was a U.S. Air Force veteran serving during the Korean War.
Duane was an electronic technician and shop supervisor for the State of Kansas, retiring after 37 years.
He was a member of the Shawnee Heights Baptist Church where he was very active and served as a Deacon, and was a member of the American Legion Post No. 255. After retirement, he and his wife traveled extensively throughout the US performing missionary work, building churches, with Campers on Mission, where he also served as a past president.
Duane married Phyllis O. Larson on April 27, 1957 in Salina, Kansas. She preceded him in death on July 4, 2015. He was also preceded in death by his son, Johnny Larson, eight brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include his children: David (Elena) Larson; Pamela (Dennis) Murray; Mary Beth Fleming and Dennis (Melanie) Larson; sister, Carol J. Larson; ten grandchildren: DeAnne (Andrew) Tworek, Andrea (Eric) Just, Robert Larson, Emma Larson, John Larson, Michaela Larson, Anna Larson, Jeremy (Ashley) Belisle, Bethany Belisle and Colby (Lori) Belisle and six great-grandchildren: Brayden Just, Adelyn Just, Maxton Tworek, Audrey Tworek, Rorie Belisle and Waylon Belisle.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, November 24, 2017 at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Ave, Topeka. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 25 at the Franklin Cemetery, Tescott, Kansas.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Shawnee Heights Baptist Church, 4335 SE 29th St, Topeka, KS 66605.
