Betty graduated from Berryton High School in 1939. She attended Baker University and Stricklers Business College. She was stenographer for many years in Topeka and later worked as a school secretary from 1963 - 1985 for U.S.D. 450. She was a member of the Berryton United Methodist Church where she was a Sunday School Teacher and was the church organist for many years.
Betty married James L. "Jim" Underwood on September 13, 1942 in the home of her parents. He preceded her in death on November 22, 1989. She was also preceded in death by her siblings, Anna Worthington in 2010 and Thomas Saffell in 2011.
Survivors include their daughter, Sallie Thompson of Topeka, two grandchildren, Matt (Keelie) Stambaugh and Julie Stambaugh and two great-grandchildren, Rhadison and Kora Stambaugh.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 30, 2017 at the Berryton United Methodist Church. Private inurnment will take place in Lynn Creek Cemetery southeast of Topeka.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Great Lakes Caring Hospice, 3715 SW 29th St., Ste. 100, Topeka, Kansas 66614.
