He was born December 1, 1926, in Salina, Kansas, the son of Hugh and Laura (Shute) Peterson. He graduated from Bennington High School in 1945 and attended Washburn University.
Pete was a mechanic with Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company retiring after 36 years of service. After retirement, he spent 16 years wintering in Mesa, Arizona and traveling throughout the United States.
Mr. Peterson was a founding member of Trinity Presbyterian Church and a member of United Rubber Workers Local 307.
On February 23, 1947, he married Alice May Brewer in Topeka. She preceded him in death on March 4, 2007. Survivors include his children: Brad (Kristine) Peterson, Salina, KS; Marla (Brad) Grier, South Sioux City, NE; Trent (Mary) Peterson, Houston, TX and Dow Peterson, Topeka; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister, Connie Cherry, Bennington, KS.
He was a dedicated grandpa, always traveling to his grandchildren’s activities and a loyal fan of the Kansas State Wildcats and Kansas City Royals. Pete coached youth baseball for many years at Lake Shawnee. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting.
Visitation will begin at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 23, 2017 at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 4746 SW 21st St., Topeka. Funeral services will follow at 1:30 p.m. Interment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Presbyterian Church. Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel is assisting the family.
