She was born on October 25, 1948 in Holton, KS to Lawrence and Madella (Johnson) Schreiber.
She grew up on a farm in Soldier, KS, and graduated from Soldier High School in 1966. She went on to attend Kansas State University.
Jan married Rob Polter on June 12, 1971 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Topeka. He survives. Other survivors include mother, Madella Schreiber; two sons, Justin (Michelle) Polter, and Ryan (April) Polter, both of Topeka; grandchildren, Garrett, Riley, Brooke, Aidan, Avary and Parks Polter, all of Topeka.
She was preceded in death by her father, Lawrence Schreiber.
She worked for Santa Fe/BNSF for over 30 years, as well as Mary Kay Cosmetics.
Jan enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and would often host events and holidays, finding joy in giving to others. She also loved her corgi's, cooking, KSU Athletics, and the farm.
The family will receive friends during a visitation from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 17th at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 901 SW Fillmore, Topeka.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, September 18, 2017 at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. Burial will follow in Holton Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made in her honor to the St. John’s Luther Hall Enhancement Fund.
