Martha A. Auldridge, 72, of Topeka, passed away on Wednesday, August 16, 2017.

She was born July 25, 1945 in Enfield, NC, the daughter of Nathan and Janice (Bellamy) Roberson. She graduated from Enfield High School, and went on to attend Wake Forest University where she earned her degree in biology. She earned her Medical Technology degree from Duke University, and spent several years working as a phlebotomist.

She married the late John D. Auldridge III on January 31, 1970. He preceded her in death on July 14, 2001.

Martha retired from teaching middle school science for Shawnee Heights USD 450 in 2001 after 17 years of teaching. She was very active in school activities. She coached Junior Varsity and Middle School basketball and track, helped with various theatrical productions, and was always willing to help her students however she was able. She was honored by KSNT as My Favorite Teacher by one of her students.

She spent time volunteering at St. Francis Hospital, and was an active volunteer for the hospital visitation team at Countryside United Methodist Church, and served as a member of the Women’s Circle Group.

In her younger years, she enjoyed painting, reading, traveling (especially to the beach in North Carolina), and trips to the casino. Martha loved watching her Kansas City Chiefs and college basketball games. Above all else, she loved spending time with her friends and family, especially her grandsons, boys and John.

She is survived by two sons, David of Larned, KS and Todd (Tammy) of Powder Springs, GA, and her two precious grandsons, Graham and Avery.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

A visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, August 25, 2017 at the Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road, Topeka.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at Countryside United Methodist Church, 3221 SW Burlingame Road, Topeka. Burial will follow at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery & Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her honor may be made to Countryside United Methodist Church or to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
