Lucille E. Baehni, 88, of Topeka, died Thursday, May 25, 2017 at Midland Hospice House.

Lucille was born April 1, 1929 in Alma, the daughter of Fred and Cordelia (Steinmeyer) Reuter. She graduated from Alma High School in 1947 and received her diploma from the Jane C. Stormont School of Nursing in 1951.

She was employed as a Registered Nurse with Stormont-Vail Hospital and served as Director of Nursing for Labor and Delivery from 1951 to 1961. She later was employed as a School Nurse for USD-501 from 1973 to 1989.

She was a Campfire Girls Leader for all four of her daughters and a member of the Topeka Needlework Guild. A life-long member of First Lutheran Church, she served in many capacities: Church Council, the Altar Guild, Choir, and Sunday School Teacher. She initiated a project with the youth in 1968 to create worship banners for each Sunday during Lent and Easter, and continued to express her faith as a fiber artist until her death. Her liturgical art was displayed at Grace Cathedral’s Cloister Gallery Showing in 2009.

She united in marriage with Ted W. Baehni on September 2, 1951, at St. John Lutheran Church, Alma, KS. He died May 3, 2012. Survivors include daughters, LeAnne Baehni (Larry) Schultz, Topeka; Sally Baehni (Henrik Andersen), Kansas City, MO; Lucy Camille (Shannon) Engler, Lincoln, NE; and Mary Jane (David) Barnes, Allen, TX; grandchildren, Katelyn Engler (Matt) Hill, Zachary (Samantha) Engler, Elizabeth Barnes, Caroline Barnes, and James Barnes; great-grandchildren, Lucille Engler and Warren Engler; brother, Vernon F. Reuter; sister, Evelyn I. Schmidt; many nieces and nephews, and their children. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Vivian E. (Reuter) Savage; brother-in-law, Edward F. Schmidt; and sister-in-law, Johanna H. (Albertin) Reuter.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at First Lutheran Church. Interment will follow at Topeka Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, May 29, 2017 at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel.
