In Memory Of
Rosalie Brooks
1924 - 2017

Rosalie Brooks, entered into this world as a twin, on October 31st, 1924 in Kansas City, MO., the daughter of Michael and Jeanette Michelson, who were large figures in her life, of whom she loved and emulated. She passed to heaven on March 23, 2017. Rosalie was a beloved daughter, wife, sister, , aunt, mother of Israel (mother to spiritual daughters all over the world). She was married to Rev. Orville (Ray) Brooks on June 1, 1947 and lived a devoted life for 52 years. Ray passed to glory on March 14, 2000. Rosalie was a pastor’s wife, missionary, teacher, church song leader, vocalist, Sunday School teacher, mentor and lover of people. She discipled and was the role model for single, and married women worldwide. As a twin, she and her sister, Rosella Hupp (Topeka) were inseparable. She loved her siblings, Calvin Michelson (Rosalind) (San Antonio, Texas), and Mary Haselton (deceased) greatly.

Rosalie grew up in Topeka. She graduated from Topeka High School in 1946 and worked at Forbes Air Base as a teletype operator and then later at Southwestern Bell.

Rosalie was known in the family for being an adventurous tomboy as she was young. She loved to play ball with her brother and others. She loved the ministry and being a pastor’s wife first in Tonkawa, Iowa, and then at Open Way Full Gospel Church in North Topeka for over 30 years. She also lived in Goshen, Indiana for a few years helping her husband teach with a Project Timothy outreach in the church there. She and Ray traveled worldwide preaching and teaching and role modeling the Christian life. They were part of pioneer works especially in Argentina and Surinam, traveled to and working in Surinam alone at least 10 times. Other ministry trips included Costa Rica, England, France, Gambia, Germany. Guatemala, Holland, Jamaica, Maruitania, Mexico, Paraguay, Senegal and Uruguay coving the years from 1957 to 1997. Many admired Aunt Rosalie’s quiet, yet full of spunk-filled life. She had the gift of hospitality and entertained many church and mission folks in her home. She lived out of a suitcase and did not complain. She knew how to live a simple life style and loved visiting and encouraging missionaries world wide as her husband preached and taught.

Aunt Rosalie would have loved to have children, but the Lord instead gave her spiritual children worldwide. Messages have come in on Facebook from everywhere sending her their best regards for the huge role she has played in their lives. Aunt Rosalie was a huge part of the Hupp and Dunn extended families. She loved Christmas holidays and family reunions and showing her love simply to her nieces and nephews and their families.

In addition to being survived by her twin sister, Rosella, and brother, Calvin; she is the aunt to David Hupp and wife Mary [children, Jonathan Hupp (Reagan), Rebecca Alcala (Patrick), David Shepherd (Amy), Paul Hupp (Debbie), Elisabeth Souldatou (Yiannis)}, and Ann Dunn and husband Raymond [children, John Dunn (Michelle), Joel Dunn (Stacy), Josh Dunn (Sarah) and Jeffrey Dunn{, Ruth Dunn and husband Tim [children Jennifer Burgess (Josh), Jordan Dunn and Justin Dunn], Mike Brooks and wife Connie [children Brock Brooks and Kimberly McCasky (Sean)], Steve Brooks, Mark Brooks and wife Angel [children Ashlyn and Bradyn], Mitch Michelson [children Jacob Michelson (Sarah), Jeremy Bowers and Emily Bowers], Marsha Michelson (widow of Toby) [children Matthew (Meredith) and Blake (Megan)]. Josh Michelson, and Lowell Michelson [daughter Melissa].

Rosalie was born a twin with her beloved sister, Rosella. Rosalie was on the radio singing beautiful duets with Rosella on many church programs in the 40s, 50s and 60s and they sang together for many years at weddings and funerals. The twins often dressed alike even without consulting each other. They had a very special relationship and would call each other to say goodnight into their 90’s.

In later, years Rosalie became part of Community Church in Topeka. She helped with Awana in her 80s and did all she could to pray for and encourage others. Her favorite outing was to church, or a ladies luncheon and to be part of the womens’ ministry. She was on the prayer line and you knew would indeed pray for you.

We know that she is at peace with the Lord Jesus, whom she dearly loved, and her beloved husband and many other saints who have gone before
