Roy J. Fitzpatrick, 89, Topeka, passed away Saturday, March 11, 2017.

Roy was born November 1, 1927 in Weeping Water, NE, the son of Joseph and Leila (Zessin) Fitzpatrick.

He graduated from Weeping Water High School and the University of Nebraska.

He served in the U.S. Navy during post World War II era.

He was employed by the State of Kansas 40 years. He joined the State in 1954 with the Division of Oil and Gas Conservation of the Kansas Corporation Commission. He joined the State Auditor’s office in 1957 and the Legislative Division of Post Audit in 1971.

He was a member of Topeka First Free Methodist Church and served as Treasurer for over 30 years.

Roy married Gretchen Koenig on October 29, 1954 in Lincoln, NE. His wife of 62 years survives. Other survivors include daughter, Nancy Espinoza, Merriam, KS; 5 grandchildren; and sister, Donna Granneman. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Diane Luthye; and son, Steven R. Fitzpatrick.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, March 20, 2017 at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 19, 2017.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 3625 SW 29th St. Suite 102, Topeka, KS 66614.
