Richard Earl Payne

Richard Earl Payne, 88, Topeka, died Thursday, February 23, 2017, at Midland Hospice House. He was born May 11, 1928, at Salina, the son of Harold Thomas and Elsie M. (Hoyt) Payne.

Richard served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He had worked at the Coca Cola Bottling Company and retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company after 30 years of service. He had been active with the Boy Scouts of America, Jayhawk Area Council and was an active volunteer with the Soldier Township Fire Department. He was a member of the Topeka Daylily Club, Gardeners of America, and Woodcarvers of America.

Richard was married to Lorene Theresa Dalsing on April 14, 1952, in Lawrence.

Surviving are his wife, Lorene, of the home; his children: Patricia Johnston (Rick), Michael Payne (Julie), and Matthew Payne all of Topeka; grandsons: Richard Johnston (Suzanne) of Topeka, Ryan Johnston (Kristine) of Topeka, Daniel Payne (Alicia) of Holton, Brian Payne (Sheena) of San Francisco, CA, and Samuel Payne of Topeka; and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, February 28, 2017, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Avenue, Topeka. A Fort Riley military detail will conduct military honors at West Lawn Memorial Gardens, 820 SW Auburn Road, Topeka.

Richard will lie in state from 3:00 to 8:00 PM, Monday, at the funeral chapel.
