Annie Lee (Swopes) Hudson, 87, passed away suddenly on Friday, December 2, 2016 at her home in Topeka, KS.

Annie was born March 22, 1929 in Watson, AR, to Ernest and Annie Bell (Ellis) Swopes. She married Leroy Hudson on October 22, 1949 in Arkansas City, AR. Together they had seven children. Annie retired from the VA Hospital in 1979.

She is survived by four children, Leroy (Charlesella) Hudson, Jr., Jo Hudson, Lavon Hudson, and Jacqueline Kay Hudson, all of Topeka; 11 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Leopoleon Swopes, Sr., Herman Swopes, and Sherman Swopes, all of Chicago, IL; and three sisters, Merseal Bankston, Marjorie Kuykendall, and Alberta Neal, all of Chicago.

Annie was preceded in death by her husband; children, Charles Gene Hudson, Sr., Brenda Sue Hudson, and Archie Lynn Hudson; parents; and brother, Chester Arthur Swopes.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 8, 2016, at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel, 2843 S.E. Minnesota Avenue, 66605.

A memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 9, 2016, at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 2701 SE Croco Road, Topeka, KS.

A private family inurnment will take place at Topeka Cemetery, Topeka.
