Duane W. Reed, 81, Topeka, passed away Thursday, October 20, 2016 at Lexington Park Assisted Living.

Duane was born March 6, 1935 in Quenemo, KS, the son of John C. and Irene L. (Wilson) Reed. He graduated from Topeka High School and attended Clarks School of Business. He served in the U.S. Army.

He was a butcher for A. & P. Food Store and also was employed as a Contract Supervisor with Santa Fe Railroad, retiring in 1995.

He was a member of the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, Sunrise Optimist Club, Topeka High School Historical Society and Kaw Valley Woodworkers.
Duane married Norma Jean Adams on September 14, 1958 in Ozawkie. She died November 5, 2014. Survivors include three children, Darren W. (Cheryl) Reed, Barbara J. (John) Johnson and Karen S. (Scott Coffman) Reed-Coffman, all of Topeka; seven grandchildren, Mitchell S. (Keri) Reed, David K. Reed, DDS, Joshua E. Gomez, Mason A. (Elizabeth Ortiz) Gomez, Kaila J. (Jerry) Bailey, Kayla S. (Matt) Welch, Jason S. Coffman; great-granddaughters, MyLee and LynnLee Mullins, Esmiayah Gomez, Stephanie and Maddie Welch; step-grandchildren, Zach (Jenny) Johnson and Ariel Johnson; and step-great-grandsons, Asher and Beckett Johnson. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Larry C. Reed.

A funeral ceremony will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at the Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave, Topeka, KS 66608. Interment will follow at the Meriden Cemetery, Meriden, KS. Duane will lie in state after 3 p.m., Monday at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 6:30-8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Topeka Rescue Mission, 600 N. Kansas Ave, Topeka, KS 66608.
