Betty Jean (Burnam) Vitt, 91, passed away on Wednesday, October 19, 2016,
at Midland Hospice House.

She was born on July 23, 1925, in Gage, Oklahoma, to Claude and Nola (Byram) Burnam. The family lived in Oklahoma, Texas, Pennsylvania, New Mexico, and Missouri, due to her father’s career in construction.

Betty married Elroy Vitt Jr. on June 27, 1970.

She was a member of the Central Church of Christ in Topeka. She worked at the Santa Fe Railroad office building for 31 years, until her retirement in 1985.

Betty is preceded in death by her brothers, Robert Burnam, Claude L. Burnam; a sister, Vera Tangredi; and step-daughter, Sandra Yocum.

She is survived by her husband; step-children, Jeri Roberts and Raymond Vitt; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A visitation will be at 9:00 a.m. with a short funeral service at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 22, 2016, at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Avenue, Topeka, Kansas. A graveside service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at Shawnee Center Cemetery in Wakarusa, Kansas.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Central Church of Christ, 1250 SW College, Topeka, KS 66604, Alzheimer’s Association, 3625 SW 29th St. Suite 102 Topeka, KS 66614 or Midland Hospice Care, 200 SW Frazier Circle Topeka, KS 66606.
