Clayton Curtis Cochran

Clayton Curtis Cochran, 87, Topeka, died Monday, October 17, 2016, at Homestead Assisted Living. He was born December 24, 1928, in Topeka, the son of James Floyd and Elma Julia (Bills) Cochran and was a life-long resident of the North Topeka/Seaman community. After retirement he and Norma lived at Atria Hearthstone East for ten years.

He attended Menoken Grade School, Seaman High School, and Washburn University. He played football at Seaman and Washburn. He was a State Farm Insurance Agent (1960-1974) and then was a self-employed farmer/stockman. He wanted to be remembered for improving the productivity of the land and livestock on his watch.

Clayton was a member of Northland Christian Church and was a former member of Moose Lodge # 555, North Topeka Kiwanis Club, North Topeka Drainage District Board, and the Seaman Board of Education (10 years).

Clayton was married to Norma Jean Brooks on April 2, 1949, in Topeka. She preceded him in death on December 24, 2014. Also preceding him in death were his parents; infant daughter, Carol Ann; two sons, Kenneth Lee and Curt Alan; two brothers: Leland and Burton; and a sister: Marilyn.

Surviving are a daughter: Karen Sue Clark (Stan) of Topeka; sister: Delores Perry of Cherokee Village, AR; three grandchildren: Joshua Clark, Kyle Cochran (Kendra), all of Topeka, and Stephanie Ferrell (Derek) of Fort Myers, FL; and five great-grandchildren: Chloe Clark, Brooklyn Kelley, Bryce Cochran, Brayden Cochran, and Brinley Cochran.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM, Saturday, October 22, 2016, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Avenue, Topeka. There will be a Celebration of Life gathering immediately following at Penwell-Gabel Family Center, 1940 NW Central Avenue, Topeka. Private interment will be in Prairie Home Cemetery, NW 35th and Menoken Road, Topeka.

Clayton will lie in state from 3:00 to 8:30 PM, Friday at the funeral chapel.
