Eleanor Darlene Burns, 86, Topeka, passed away Sunday, September 18, 2016.

Eleanor was born June 30, 1930 in Miltonvale, the daughter of Charles R. and Mabel I. (Shaffer) Thorp. She graduated from Enterprise Academy in 1948.

She was employed by Capper’s Publications in the Cash Table department where she made deposits for Brinks to deliver to the banks. She later worked as a Clerk in the Deposit Service department at First National Bank for 13 years.

She was a member of Wanamaker Seventh-Day Adventist Church where she served as a deaconess for many years. Eleanor loved Jesus and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She was always sending out greeting cards to encourage others. She loved to bake and share goodies, enjoyed music, painting ceramics and crafts.

Eleanor married Kenneth Burns on March 24, 1951. They later divorced. Survivors include daughter, Kathy (Danny) Kaesewurm, Overland Park; brother, John Thorp, Topeka; granddaughters, Crystal (Shane) Bahr, Cora Burns, Kathy Burns Foster; great-grandchildren, Dez Burns, Hailee Auten, Shane Layla Bahr, Willie Worford, D’Shayla Worford, John Worford, Jr., Kelsie Thompson and Andrew Foster; and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by a son, Terry Burns; brother, Earl Charles Thorp; and sister-in-law, Marion Thorp.

Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, September 26, 2016 at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road. Private burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
