Mary Louise (Stull) Hartman, 91, was taken home to the Lord on Friday, August 26, 2016 after a beautiful life dedicated to her God, her husband and her family. She was a life-long resident of Topeka and member of the Grace United Methodist Church.
Mary was born to Benjamin F. and Stella Maud (Hoffsommer) Stull on December 22, 1924 in Topeka, Kansas. She was the younger sister of Catherine. Mary was a proud Highland Park Scottie of the graduating class of 1943 and took great delight during her school years in musical productions and Girls Reserve. She was married to her life’s partner, Paul William Hartman, on December 31, 1944 in Topeka, Kansas during his all-too-brief leave from the U.S. Navy.
Mary worked during her teen years for Pelletier’s in downtown Topeka. She also worked for Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad from 1943 to 1948 and later as an office assistant for Dr. Lucius Eckles from 1956 to 1959. Mary was a licensed day care provider from 1959 to 1980. During her life more than 50 children, in addition to her own, experienced her loving care and guidance.
Three elements characterized this very special life; love for her family, love for her God and love for her church. It was impossible for anyone whose life she ever touched not to have experienced this love and dedication.
Mary is survived by her son, Mark W. Hartman and his wife, Pamela; daughter, Carol A. Hart and her husband, Ben; four grandchildren, Matthew G. Hartman and his wife, Toni, Adam B. Hart and his wife, Meridee, Rebecca A. Quitter and her husband, Michael, and Gregory P. Hart; eight great-grandchildren, Joshua D. Quitter, Noah Hart, Jacob P. Quitter, Brandon B. Hart, Abby G. Quitter, Alexander S. Hartman, Adyson G. Hart and Ruby J. Hart.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Paul William Hartman, and her sister, Catherine (Stull) Hett.
A celebration of Mary's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 30, 2016, at Grace United Methodist Church, 2627 Western, Topeka, KS 66611. The family will greet friends an hour prior to the service. A private burial will take place at Topeka Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Midland Hospice Care, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, KS 66606 and Grace United Methodist Church.
