She was born December 15, 1935 in Texas City, Texas, the daughter of Hollis Clayton and Anna May (Lowe) Mast. She was a graduate of Texas City High School.
Betty was employed by Payless Shoe Source in Topeka, retiring in 1996.
She was an active member of Hope Lutheran Church and American Legion Auxiliary Capitol Post No. 1 of Topeka.
Betty married Louis I. Theobald on November 9, 1956 in Galveston, Texas. He survives. Other survivors include five children, Sandra (Paul) Richardson, Fresno, CA, Cathy (Bob) Walton, Topeka, Michael (Lea) Theobald, Topeka, Jana (Bob) Southwick, Clovis, NM and Matthew (Charlene) Theobald, Colorado Springs, CO; 18 grandchildren, Amy Richardson, Michael O’Leary, Thomas Richardson, Rob Walton, Zachary Walton, Amie Taylor, Shaun Theobald, Joshua Theobald, Teague Peak, Gates Peak, Joseph Southwick, Taylor Southwick, Christian Southwick, Chase Theobald, Connor Theobald, Carter Theobald, Caitlyn Theobald and Ryrie Thompson; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Hollis Cecil Mast.
Betty enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Church functions, Pappan’s Landing activities, traveling by train, Bingo, Casinos and KU Basketball.
A funeral ceremony will be 10 a.m., Monday, August 29, 2016 at the Hope Lutheran Church, 2636 SE Minnesota, Topeka, KS 66605. Entombment will follow at Mount Hope Mausoleum, Topeka.
Betty will lie in state after 3 p.m., Sunday at the Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel, 2843 SE Minnesota Ave, Topeka, where the family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m.
