Barry W. Carswell, Sr., 69, Topeka, died Sunday, August 21, 2016, at his home. He was born February 4, 1947, at Durham, North Carolina, the son of Frances Elizabeth (Rich) and William Joseph Carswell, Sr. He moved to Topeka in the summer of 1961, from Sarasota, FL.
Barry graduated from Seaman High School in 1966. He served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany. Barry worked at Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company’s Topeka plant for 27 years before retiring.
He was a member of Topeka North Post # 400 of the American Legion.
Barry was married to Carolyn Clark on July 8, 1968, in Topeka. They later divorced. He was married to Betty Louise (Morris) Wischmeier on October 31, 1999, in Topeka. She survives of the home.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Betty, are two sons: Barry Wayne Carswell, Jr. (Chasity) of Topeka and Robert Paul Carswell (Jill) of Topeka; three step children: Tina Rae Darveaux of Topeka, Steve Creollo, Jr. (Kris) of Topeka, and Jason Creollo (Missy) of Topeka; a brother: William J. Carswell, Jr. (Linda) of Lawrence; fifteen grandchildren: Justin Carswell, Joshua Carswell, Kylie Carswell, Keira Carswell, Khloe Carswell, Trevor Lane, Wyatt Darveaux, Garett Darveaux, Brandon Creollo (Rilie), Halie Creollo, Austin Creollo, Connor Creollo, Dylan Creollo, Mariah Creollo, and Mallorie Creollo; and two great-grandchildren: Lily Creollo and Raelee Creollo.
Funeral services will be at 6:00 PM, Monday, August 29, 2016, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Avenue, Topeka followed by military honors conducted by a Fort Riley U.S. Army Detail.
Barry will lie in state after 3:00 PM, Monday, August 29, 2016, at the funeral chapel where the family will receive friends from 5:00 to 6:00 PM.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942.
