Opal M. Becker, 95, of Topeka, KS, passed away Friday, July 29, 2016 at McCrite Plaza of Topeka after a short illness.

She was born September 19, 1920 in Bigelow, KS to Dean Arthur and Ila Pearl (Mills) Coxley.
She married Donald Gene Becker September 3, 1950 in Las Vegas, New Mexico.

In 1938, Opal graduated from Frankfort High School. Her first job was working for the principal Saturday mornings for $15 a month. She took one year of post-graduate work at Frankfort High School and then attended Huff Business College in Kansas City, Mo during 1939-40. In August 1940, she began working for the Kansas Department of Health and Environment in Topeka, KS and worked there 53 ½ years, retiring in February 1994.

Opal’s community service was life-long. During World War II she was active in the American Women’s Volunteer Service and the USO. She volunteered at Stormont Vail Hospital, the Kansas State Historical Society Gift Shop and in the office at Countryside United Methodist Church.

Opal and Don were residents of Pauline in Topeka and enjoyed a great neighborhood connection. They loved to go camping and fishing together and with extended family and friends. Opal loved to play cards. She also loved ice cream - especially home-made! After her retirement, she enjoyed three cruises; to the Caribbean, Alaska and the Mediterranean.
