Mrs. Sandra Lou McDonald, 82, of Topeka died peacefully on Monday, July 25, 2016 at Stormont Vail Medical Center.

Sandra was born on December 31,1933 in Colby, KS. to Morrell and Helen Dexter.

Sandra graduated from Topeka High School 1951 and Stormont Vail School of Nursing 1955. Sandra married Glenn McDonald her high school sweetheart on September 5, 1953. Sandra worked for the VA, Shawnee County Health Dept. and USD 501 School nursing.

Sandra is survived by her husband of 62 years Glenn O. McDonald Jr., children: Kelly G. McDonald Shawnee, KS and Michael M. McDonald Overland Park, KS. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Tiaudra Smith, Antonio Smith, Kendra Mae McDonald, Mariza McDonald, Lauren McDonald, Caleb McDonald; great-grandson, Todd Franklin, Jr.; brother, David Dexter, Topeka and sister, Cheryl O'Neal, Dallas, TX.

She is preceded in death by son David P. McDonald and daughter Anne L. McDonald both of Topeka.

She was a generous and dedicated wife, Mother and caregiver as well as an individual who loved and was passionate for the handicapped and the less fortunate. She was an active member of PEO for 50+ years, member of University Methodist Church United and often volunteered at Capper Foundation and TARC.

A visitation will be Thursday 7-28-16 6pm to 7:30 pm at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel, 1321 SW. 10th Ave., Topeka, KS 66604 with a funeral service at 1:00pm Friday, 7/29/16 with burial to follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Sandra’s life.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the charity of your choice.
