Donald S. Hayward, 70, Topeka, passed away peacefully Thursday, July 21, 2016.

He was born November 7, 1945, in Oakland, California, the son of Donald T. and Evalee (Stewart) Hayward. He graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1963. He received his bachelor's degree from Wichita University and Juris Doctor from Washburn University School of Law. Don was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Vietnam War.

Don was employed by the State of Kansas as a Senior Assistant Revisor of Statutes, retiring after 28 years.

On June 3, 1967 he married Cheryl G. Dye in Hutchinson, Kansas. She survives. Other survivors include son: Paul Hayward, Kansas City, MO; daughter: Lesley Hayward (Andrew Shipley) Topeka; granddaughter: Cyane Shipley and two sisters: Patricia Springer, Pawnee Rock, KS and Donalee Sue Smith, Kansas City, KS.

Don was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and KU Jayhawks.

Funeral service will be 10:30 am, Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at Mount Hope Cemetery & Funeral Chapel, 4700 SW 17th, Topeka. Interment with military honors will follow.
