Walter Edward “Ed” Kuehl

Walter Edward “Ed” Kuehl, 78, Topeka, died Saturday, July 9, 2016, at Stormont-Vail Hospital. He was born February 5, 1938, in Topeka, the son of Carl Henry and Retha Mae (Baker) Kuehl.

Ed graduated from Onaga Rural High School in 1956. He had attended Washburn University, Emporia State University, and the University of Kansas. He served on the Topeka Police Department for 32 years, retiring as a Lieutenant. Ed was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Topeka Lodge # 3.

He was married to Peggy Lou Simkins on October 2, 1960, at Emmett.

Surviving are his wife: Peggy Kuehl of the home; two daughters: Erika Kuehl and Erin Kuehl-Kelley both of Topeka; a sister: Karen Baar of Topeka; and three grandsons: Andrew Kelley, Keegan Kelley, and Caden Kelley all of Topeka.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, July 13, 2016, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence, Topeka. Graveside honors will be conducted by the Fraternal Order of Police, Topeka Lodge # 3 and a Fort Riley U.S. Army Detail at Prairie Home Cemetery, NW 35th & Menoken Road, Topeka.

Ed will lie in state from 3:00 to 8:30 PM, Tuesday, at the funeral chapel where the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30 PM.
